What specific blood tests do you take in order to test for pneunomnia and cystic fibrosis?
What are the specific types to test a doctor would take in order to confirm or rule out pneumonia or CF? And what would the specific results be? such as blood count, etc?

- Cystic Fibrosis testing is done by a "sweat test". This test needs to be done a MINIMUM of 2 times. Pnuemonia is tested in different ways. Usually blood tests and chest xrays. There is a new urine test on the market for bacterial pnuemonia. There are different types of pnuemonia, and that have different causes. The second link has a ton of pneumonia information on it.
- sweat choride test... they will place a patch on the infant, there is no blood work. They tested my baby for it.. no most pulmonologist with babies, and small children almost always order a sweat cholride test. they can do a chest xray or ct for pnemonia. they can do blood cultures looking for bacteria, sputum (they stuff they can suck out of the lungs or the patient coughs up) for bacteria, viral causes. wbc elevated above 10 i would say is suggestive of a bacterial infection.
