Blood Drug Testing

What do normal / general blood tests screen for?

Hi, I was wondering, if you have just a general blood test - does it automatically screen for things such as Lukemia, Aids / HIV, Cancer etc? P.S. My boyfriend is currently being diagnosed with a super low platlet count. In effort to find a cause, i wonder if contributing factors could have been seen in multpul blood tests done previously / last year.

  1. A complete blood count (CBC) screens your white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, serum electrolytes, BUN, creatinine, hemoglobin, hematocrit and a few other things. If there are any abnormal values, they will test further; such as an elevated white blood cell count is concern for infection and would need further testing to screen for things such as leukemia. The Aids/HIV test is the western blot first, then the ELISA to confirm it. Hope it helped!
  2. there is about 75 different things a blood test should test for. It ranges from STD's to your cholesterol and blood cells. Sometimes you have to request the HIV test which they will tell you the results in a day or two
