Blood Drug Testing

Can chewing gum before a thyroid blood test affect the results?

The doctor said that my level was 2.64 and that level was normal. Can anyone help? I'm not sure what the test was called.

  1. No, chewing gum will not affect the blood test results. Mine was at 3.1 and I know that was just a little high so my doctor put me on meds.
  2. No chewing gum will not effect the test. What effects the test though is the time of day of the testing. TSH changes throughout the day being highest while we sleep and lowest around 2PM. You want to test near when its high, so testing first thing in the morning is recommended. 2.64 shows your thyroid is slowing down. My first TSH was the same. Less than a year later, it went to 6.8 and I got diagnosed. Couple of links below that mention TSH levels
