Blood Drug Testing

Thyroid test alternatives?? Is there really any other alternatives except a blood test?

Everytime I get blood drawn from my body, I almost ALWAYS end up getting sick and get REALLY dizzy. So, is there any other ways to check to see if I got a thyroid problem(when I do kno I probably have one since I have lots of symptoms with the hypothyroidism(sp?)) except for getting a blood test or is it not possible??

  1. hey, i along with my mother have hypothyroidism, and i have been getting my blood taken since i was 3. Doctors can feel your thyroid gland to make sure its not extremely serious, but I get a blood test evry...6 months i think? and you just have to get used to it. I think that if there was an alternative they would have used it on a 5 year old, which is when I started getting blood tests. Thyroid conditions stink, but if you dont get (hypothyroidism) treated you get head aches, or you get very tired and might have to be hospitilazed. I'm sorry but atleast your not alone! lol
  2. This is the simplest way to check for Thyroid disorders ( thyroid levels in the blood). It sounds as though you have a fear of needles and/or the sight of blood. Many people do. But, the alternatives are worse than a blood test. When you need to have your levels checked, don't look at the needle or the blood that is going into the tube. Think positive thoughts. It is a quick, easy test. The more that you think about, the more you will feel such symptoms. I have have had 4 fine needle aspirations ( a needle to draw out cells from a thyroid bump or nodule) along with many blood tests. I would choose a blood test over the biopsy. You just need to find a way to cope with it as best as possible. I hope that this helped some.
  3. No doctor will treat you for hypothyroidism unless there's a positive blood test. If you do get blood work make sure its done first thing in the morning because afternoon thyroid tests are not reliable because TSH is highest when we first wake. Just bring some juice with you and drink it after the blood draw and you should be OK. Before blood tests, the condition was diagnosed by symptoms and by averaging basal temps. I'm not sure you could finda doctor who would diagnose you this way.
  4. You have to get the blood test to diagnose thyroid disorder. It is important that you have it done if you are having symptoms. Look away and think about something else when you are getting the blood test. You can do this. My little three year old grandson has to have this blood test once a month, so think about him and go get the blood test.
