Thyroid blood test results?

I had blood tests to test my thyroid function. I got the lab results today in the mail. It said that my thyroid function is at a 3.48, but that's all it said. I do have a doctors appointment on Tuesday, however, I would like to know what this means now, so I can be better informed when I see the doctor. Thanks. (Please, only answers from people who know what I am talking about, and who know what they are talking about. No points seekers (idk trolls) please) I had all tests done at the same time, along with a 2 hour blood glucouse test, and a few other tests. I am worried that something is wrong, because the blood glucouse results are missing from the lab results paper I was sent, and there is a note from my doctor at the bottom that I be sure to come in for my appointment on Tuesday to disscuss results and treatment options..... I would call the doctor, but they are closed for the weekend.

  1. I *think* your thyroid results need to be something like 4. so yours MIGHT be under active.
  2. What this means is you need to have a talk with your doctor. Let him know you want morew then a number mailed to you. And you should never ask for medical help from the internet
  3. Well, when i get my thyroid tested, they test 3 different things.   4. results vary from lab to lab - mine says levels should be between mU/L 0.27 and 4.20 Seems yours is ok. I believe you also have to take into consideration the Free T4 level.

I had a really low temperature, incredible problems with losing wt, thinning hair. This year my tests did conclude that I had an underactive thryoid.
  6. Just went in Friday for my yearly test,last test was 3.15 and considered good. I am hypo-thyroid and on synthyroid, .05 micrograms once a day. Yours would appear normal,if you have a print out and you should, you should be able to see the range is between 1 and 5. I can recommend webmd for any other questions. BTW I went in for testing after my heart was racing when I was relaxing at 7pm. Hope this helps,Good Luck,they normally just ck TSH level.
  7. Usually TSH levels are high in hypothyroidism and low in hyperthyroidism. I have hypothyroidism and I am on Synthroid 0.112 mg a day for the rest of my life. Without my medication, I am tired, sluggish, get constipated and my TSH level decreases. One of my symptoms that I notice constantly even with the medication is intolerance to cold. The lowest it has been is 0.21. The range for a TSH is 0.4 to 4.2. You are still in the normal range, but the doctor will probably keep an eye on it and have you come in for another blood test at 3 months or 6 months.   8. There are several different thyroid tests- TSH, total T4. free T4, and T3. The normal results vary for each one. TSH - 0.3 to 3.0 - less than 0.3 can indicate hyperthyroidism; over 3.0 can indicate hypothyroidism total T4 - 4.5 to 12.5 - less than 4.5 can indicate hypothyroidism. Greater than 12.5 hyperthyroidism; low T4 with low TSH can indicate pituitary problem. free T4 - 0.7 to 2.0 - less than 0.7 can indicate hypothyroidism. T3 - 80 to 220 - less than 80 can indicate hypothyroidism. Doctor will have more info for you.
  9. The lab range for TSH varies lab to lab. Some labs like Quest have the range at 0.3 to 5.5, other labs are much lower. AACE recommeded the range be 0.3 to 3.0, which would make the 3.48 reading you have make you hypothyroid. If you are having symptoms, then have it treated with thyroid medication. A TSH over 2.0 is doing damage in the body. see links below. Because TSH is constantly changing throughout the day, its best to always test first thing in the morning each and every time. That way you will catch it at its high point and have the medication adjusted by the high levels. Better thyroid tests are the free t4 and free t3. THese tests are often use when the patient is on a medication that is both T4 and T3.
