Blood Drug Testing

Enlarged thyroid but my blood thyroid test was normal.?

My doctor thought my thyroid might be enlarged. I got an ultrasound and the technician said "Nothing earth shattering here" but that is all they could say without getting in trouble for giving too much info. What can cause it to be enlarged if I don't have a thyroid problem. Could it be thyroid cancer?

  1. It can be enlarged or you can have thyroiditis without it afecting thyroid hormone output. I wouldn't worry, they wouldn't have said what they did if they suspected cancer from the ultrasound.
  2. if your thyroid is enlarged yes they will put u on meds im pretty sure of that.
  3. One of the reason could be fluoride that displaces iodine in the thyroid and creating the "iodine deficiency". "This common additive to your water supply, and ingredient in the toothpaste you and your children use may be contributing to the increased rates of goiter and hypothyroidism -- and other health concerns -- in the U.S. . . without improving dental health."
  4. I have an enlarged thyroid and all my blood tests were fine too. After my ultrasound scan they said it is a benign goitre which means I have no lumps etc on the thyroid and there is no obvious cause. However I have no iodine source in my diet and am experienceing a few other symptoms of thyroid problems so am now taking an iodine supplement and am going to see if that makes a difference.
  5. Sometimes a disease called Hashimoto's thyroiditis is to blame.
  6. I had the same problem a few years ago (but i was really sick) The growth on my thyroid ended up being goiters...which are completely harmless unless they prevent your thyroid from functioning properly. I was diagnosed with graves disease and had to have my thyroid removed so hopefully you don't have to go thru that process!! If your blood test (tsh, t3 and t4) are all normal then i wouldn't worry too much, could even just be a cystic mass. Good luck!
