THYROID BLOOD TEST, CANCER?
My best friend had a blood test for a spider bite she attained. Instead of clearing her, the doctor looked at her blood test results, turned to her mum and said "Is there any people who have had thyroid cancer, in either side of the family, this is a serious question". Being none, my friend asked the doctor why he asked. All he told her was that her blood test was unusual and that she has to have another lood test in a month. WHAT THE HELL?? What could have caused his worry??? My friend is nearly 18 years old. Any replies appreciated.

- It depends on the tests he did. If he just did a standard thyroid panel (TSH, T4, T3, TRH), then he cannot diagnose cancer based on these values. However if he did a thyroid marker level, then a high level is indicative but not diagnostic of cancer. At your friends age, a simple thyroid disorder is more likely (i.e. hypo or hyperthyroidism
- If I were your friend, I would pursue this matter. My daughter was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at 19 years of age and had none of the typical signs that go along with the disease. They found the mass on her thyroid while doing a routine x-ray of her sinuses. I would tell your friend and her mom to request that the doctor do further testing to check for any thyroid disorders - cancer or not. You can never be too safe. Good luck to you and your friend
