Blood Drug Testing

Will CBC with diff platelets, CMP, or Thyroid Panel w/ TSH blood tests show anything regarding the heart?

Public Comments

  1. The thyroid panel will show hormone issues that could effect the heart. Cardiac Sonograms, electrocardiograms and dye test are more commonly used to detect specific heart issues
  2. Not really. It will get an idea of cell types and distribution, etc... but more specific to the heart would be cardiac enzymes or something like that.
  3. Yes. An elevated LDH or AST, components in the CMP, are enzymes released by dying heart tissue as would occur in a heart attack. But, they are most useful to evaluate liver function. So, unless the person being tested had suffered an MI a few hours before the tests, the answer is NO. Other abnormalities, tho not linked directly to the heart, could indicate a possible heart related problem. But not likely.
