How long do i have to wait for blood test results?

I had blood tests at hospital. Am having another appointment for another investigation in 6-ish weeks time. I've waited 3 already. I rang the hospital and the consultant says I have to wait til then for the first blood test results. Do I have to wait this long? Thanks ever so. I'm in UK.

1. It depends upon where you are located globally. Some of the phrases and expressions you use suggest to me your are somewhere other than the United States. Here where I live, in the United States, you can get lab results in a matter of hours. The only exception is when a test is being done that requires 72 hours for incubation of bacteria. In that case, you would receive the results after 72 hours.
2. it depends on the test, most test only take a day or two to run, and others can take up to a week or longer. What takes the longest it waiting for the doctor to call you with the results.
3. That will depend on what is being tested. Some tests may take as long as a month to be ready.
