Blood Drug Testing

What do these blood test results mean?

My friends 2 1/2 m/o baby ran a fever for a few days, and has been battling thrush for 6 weeks. His blood test results said that both red and white count is down, as well as hematocrit and hemoglobin. Ped would like to re-test within the month. No antibiotics have been given. What does this mean, and why?

  1. If he has an infection, the white count would be up. If he ran a fever for a few days and it is gone now, then it most likely was a viral infection. If she doesn't trust the ped, she needs to find another one for a second opinion.
  2. it means that ur baby isnt getting sufficient oxygen to its organ and needs treatment very soon
  3. idk what that is but i know i get low white blood platelets and it is called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP for short) it is a blood problem close to lukemia BUT IT IS NOT ask the doctors to look for somthing in that area, i dont it is anything close to that, but its better to be save than sorry (not a horrible problem) if the baby bruses alot gets small red downs on small areas or larg it can be large but it was very small on me of the skin ect then you need to ask them if it is that then if the baby does not have that then idk what to tell you but here is a link of what that is i doubt it but i saw low white blood cell and i had to give you this when you guys figure otu what is wrong please tell me i am very curious about what it is also http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/common/blood/113.html
  4. The low red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit means the baby is anemic. It is usually associated with not enought iron in infants. However, his little body has been working hard to fight of the infection so who knows. I would think that his white count would be elevated, but his immune system may be a little supressed. Thrush is caused by yeast and antibiotics are only effective for bacteria. If they are not going to re-test for another month, then they are obviously not too concerned and probably assume it will run its course. Your friend should just keep a close watch on the baby and take it in sooner if it doesn't seem like he is getting better.
