how long does it take to get results from blood test for heartworm?

we were at the vet yesterday, and she had blood drawn for heartworm. so i could get the new prescription and meds for her. well they gave us the new script, but how long will it take for the test results?

4. You should hear by Monday! I have the arrangement with my vet to call only if there is a postivie test report. If the test was negative then dont call me and I start the meds with in 48 hours of the test! Seeing as it is a holiday week end I'd give it an extra day!

6. Call your vet on Monday. They should have given you some idea of how long it takes before you left. How long it takes depends on what blood tests they are using and if they do it in house or if they send it out. At my vet they use a snap test in house and the results are ready in 10 minutes. Sometimes if they are really busy and there is a backlog of labwork (they do a LOT of their labwork in house rather than sending it out, largely because they get results faster that way) it takes longer and sometimes they get so busy that they forget to call, which is why they usually say to call if they haven't called by the next day. If they send their heartworm tests out for testing it can take anywhere from a day to a week depending on where they send it and whether they send samples the same day or have a specific day that they send all the samples from the past week. My old vet also did heartworm tests in house but they used a different test which took longer to set up and read and they only ran the heartworm test on Tuesdays.
7. My Vet does the test in-house and I know within 15 minutes.
8. My adopted dogs ar always tested, takes about 24hr's if they don't do testing in the office, less if they test there. NEVER GIVE HEARTWORM MEDS. until your dog has been tested, and you have the results, if they have them different treatment is required, and regular heart worm tabs can kill , if the test is clean you will probably get someting like intercepter to give once a month. Sorry to say but your vet should not have given any med's until test results are back.
9. If the resultss were sent out to a lab, they should get the results by Monday. I would call Monday morning and ask if they came in yet. We usually don't call people unless they return positive. But if the owners call and ask, we have the results right there.
10. 1-3 days. My vet sends out to Antech labs.
11. About 20 minutes. If they gave her the meds, she should be negative, but they should have told you that as well. Call them to verify.
12. The day after my dogs have teir heartworm test my vet calls me then I can give the meds
