How accurate are blood tests for pregnancy?

I am not sure if I am or not my period should be here in the next few days. I also have noticed that my inside has been a little tighter than normal. So I would just to know if it is normal to seem tighter down there and if blood tests are better for knowing if you are pregnant

1. blood tests are more accurate than hpts. My doctor recommended waiting until 2 weeks after my missed period to come in for a blood test. He also recommended that time frame for a hpt. Its really too early to tell until a few days after you miss your period. There are a lot of factors that could make you late, like change in diet, stress, not sleeping, illness...
2. I had a blood test when I was about three weeks pregnant with my first baby and the results were negative!
