Blood Drug Testing

How accurate is a blood test to test for pregnancy?

My period is a week late. I'm on ortho tricyclin and have been for about four years. I haven't missed any pills and have always been extremely regular (within a twelve hour window). I've taken two home pregnancy tests, both with a negative result. Today I went to the doctor where I took another urine test which also had a negative result. The doctor also took a blood sample and I am now waiting for the results. How accurate is a blood test when testing for pregnancy? If it comes back negative, can I stop worrying or will I need to continue waiting and testing further? To make things stranger, my coworker, who is on the same cycle as me is also a week late with two negative pregnancy tests. I don't know if it's possible, but is there any chance there's something environmental going on?? (don't mean to be dumb, you've got to admit that it's a little bit strange). Thank you for your help.

  1. its more accurate than urine
  2. it is the best.] sh..............
  3. Hey, A blood test is about 100% accurate. Even up to 10days before a missed period...
  4. I believe most pregnancy tests are prone to false negatives but are nearly always accurate with a positive result. The reason being they test for the absence or presence of a hormone that would only be in you body if you are pregnant - but I can't remember what the hormone is.
  5. Being a week late, the blood test will be accurate. Blood tests can detect the HCG hormone within about 48 hours of conception. Wait for the results of your blood test. That will give you your answer. What is going on with your friend is coincidence. I am on Ortho tri cylen also and this has never happened to me.
  6. Blood test is more accurate than a urine test. If the blood test comes back negative your doctor will probably want to poke around and make sure everything is functioning properly.
  7. A blood test is more accurate then a home pregnancy test...and a home pregnancy test is about 97% when done correctly...So it the blood test comes back negative I would say you are safe...Good Luck....
  8. The blood test is very accurate. If you miss another months take another test, if it is negative, visit the dr. They prescribe an emanogogue.
  9. Blood tests are the most accurate test there is.
  10. They are just as accurate as the pee tests. But, if you're concerened, then just call your doctor...
  11. About as accurate as they can get. If it comes back negative, after taking two home prego tests and a blood test, I would say that you are safe. If you are concerned, ask your doctor, that's what they are there for.
  12. the blood test will show the hcg hormones in the body unlike fdrom the urine test done at the doctors office and the home pregnancy test.... no its not an environmental jus coincidence!!
